Drop the Handkerchief – Yağ satarım bal satarım game

A popular game amongst children in Turkey is the "Drop the Handkerchief" game. Playing this game is quite simple but requires some preparation before beginning. To start off, gather at least three people together (though more can join if desired). Next, have one person stand in the middle of an open space or room while everyone else forms a circle around them with enough space between each other that enables movement. Then, have someone hold onto an item such as a scarf or handkerchief while everyone else sings a special song such as “Drop The Handkerchief” until it is dropped behind somebody in the circle by whoever was originally holding it. At this point, whoever was chosen must attempt to catch up with whoever dropped it without being caught themselves before taking their place back in the circle; if not successful on their first try then keep going until someone does manage to do so!

Yağ satarım bal satarım

Yağ satarım bal satarım
Ustam ölmüş ben satarım
Alacağına, bulacağına
Bir kaşık ayran
Yarın sabah bayram.

Yağ satarım, bal satarım,
Ustam öldü, ben satarım.
Ustamın kürkü sarıdır.
Satsam 15 liradır
Zam-bak Zum-bak
Dön arkana iyi bak

I sell oil, I sell honey

I sell oil, I sell honey
My master died, I must now sell them.
You'll have, you'll find
One tablespoon of ayran*;
Tomorrow morning's feast.

I sell oil, I sell honey
My master died, I must now sell them.
My master's fur is yellow
I sell it for 15 liras
Zam-bak, zum-bak,
Look carefully behind you.
